MAPFRE Insurance Named Official Auto Insurance Sponsor of Pan-Mass Challenge

Insurance Weekly News

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Insurance Weekly News -- MAPFRE Insurance, the leading provider of home and auto insurance in Massachusetts, again will serve as the official auto insurance provider of the 2016 Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC). All 6,300 cyclists who ride in this challenge to support cancer care and research will have the MAPFRE Insurance logo on their PMC 2016 official jerseys. MAPFRE Insurance has helped raise over $225,000 thus far for cancer research. To learn more about MAPFRE's involvement with the PMC, visit www.mapfreinsurance.com/pmc.

"We are thrilled to have MAPFRE as the official auto insurance provider of the PMC again this year," said Billy Starr, PMC Founder and Executive Director. "In addition to supporting the PMC as a corporate sponsor, MAPFRE employees embrace the PMC's mission by riding and volunteering on PMC weekend."

"The PMC is one of the most respected and important charity events in the region and we are proud to stand with them as a partner in fighting cancer," said John Kelly, Senior Vice President at MAPFRE Insurance. "We believe in living our credo of 'people who take care of people' and we think this is a perfect example."

Set to take place on Aug. 6 and 7, the PMC is the largest single athletic fundraising event in the country. Since 1980, the PMC has raised $500 million for the Jimmy Fund, which supports adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). In 2015, more than 6,000 cyclists raised a record $45 million for DFCI - 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar going directly to DFCI.

"I have participated in eight of the last ten Pan-Mass Challenge rides. The first six were to honor my mother, a two-time breast cancer survivor, but unfortunately the last two were in her memory (Peritoneal Cancer). Watching my mother fight cancer made me feel helpless - riding in the PMC made me feel less so," said Michael Lombardi, Actuarial Manager at MAPFRE Insurance.

MAPFRE's corporate citizenship goes beyond financial and employee-based volunteer support of the Pan-Mass Challenge. As the top Massachusetts auto insurer, MAPFRE is also dedicated to highway safety through sponsorship of the Massachusetts DOT Highway Assistance Patrol. The sponsored Highway Assistance Patrol provides motorist assistance services on highways throughout Massachusetts, including the Massachusetts Turnpike and on many of the busy thoroughfares used for the PMC bicycle routes. In support of the PMC cyclists, MAPFRE has arranged for two of the sponsored patrol vans to be stationed along the PMC route.
