Managed-care change sparked new Medicaid enrollment that began Monday

Jul. 18--HENDERSON -- Medicaid services will be provided in a new way beginning on November 1, 2019. It is called managed care.

Medicaid beneficiaries need to enroll in the new system to continue receiving benefits.

Enrollment for Medicaid managed care began on Monday in 27 counties, including Granville, Vance and Warren counties. The enrollment period extends through September 13.

Enrollment packets were mailed to Medicaid beneficiaries in June. The packets give three steps to enroll. First, choose a primary care provider. That may be your family doctor, a clinic or other health care provider.

Second, choose a health plan in N.C. Medicaid Managed Care that your provider works with. A chart for comparing plans was included in the packet sent to beneficiaries.

Third, enroll in one of the following ways:

--Mail the enrollment form in the envelope that came in the packet.

--Fax the form to 1-833-898-9655.

--Enroll online at ncmedicaidplans.gov.

--Use the N.C. Medicaid Managed Care mobile app, which can be obtained by searching for NC Medicaid Managed Care on Google Play or the Apple App Store.

--Call the Department of Health and Human Services at 833-870-5500 (TTY: 833-870-5588).

Shelonda Boyd, Medicaid intake supervisor with the Vance County Department of Social Services, said people eligible for Medicaid who didn't receive a packet and those who are eligible but not yet on Medicaid can contact her at 252-492-5001, ext. 3266.

In Warren County, residents may contact DSS at 252-257-5000. The Granville County DSS is at 919-693-1511.

Lisa Harrison, director of Granville-Vance Public Health, said the health department is partnering with DSS to help people enroll in Medicaid managed care. Her staff can guide individuals through the process. The health department can also serve as a primary care provider, she said.

"We accept all forms of insurance, including Medicaid," Harrison said.

Medicaid beneficiaries may also obtain assistance in the enrollment process by calling the state-level Medicaid Managed Care Call Center at 833-870-5500 or visiting ncmedicaidplans.gov.
