LAVONIA - A Canon man was arrested Tuesday after claiming his insurance company robbed him. Paul Newton Raines, 76, of 128 Ridgeway Road in Canon was charged with false report of a crime after an incident at an insurance business in Lavonia. Lavonia Police officers were dispatched to the business after a 911 call reporting a robbery. Upon arrival, officers found Raines, who said that the business robbed him, a Lavonia Police report said. The report said that Raines had purchased homeowners' insurance but it was canceled. Raines went to the insurance agency demanding his money but was told that he could not be given his money but that a check had been issued and mailed with his refund. Officers told Raines that it was not robbery and that it was a civil issue, the report said. Raines continued to insist he was being robbed and "held up." Officers arrested Raines and took him to the Franklin County Jail.
