Locust Grove seeks $13,000 for trucking accident

Daily Times, The (Pryor, OK)

Sept. 28--The Locust Grove Trustees directed their attorney Meredith Frailey to pursue claim against Tune Trucking's insurance company for about $13,000 after the town's fire department worked an accident involving one of their trucks.

According to the discussion, the majority of the expense is for damaged bunker gear that is now unusable after a major diesel spill.

The company is insured by Travelers Indemnity Co. of Connecticut. The accident involved the extrication of the truck's driver. The Trustees also asked Frailey to pursue reimbursement of $2,025 from the same company for a spill that occurred in 2012 which they have yet to pay.

The Trustees also asked Frailey to determine whether the town or the land owners are responsible for cleaning out a drainage ditch that runs through town which is now grown up with trees and brush. The ditch needs to be cleaned out in order to prevent flooding in case of a large rainfall.

The Trustees approved blocking off some downtown streets on Oct. 29 for a fundraiser for O&A Honor Flights. The group plans to hold a motorcycle fundraiser beginning at 10 a.m. on that date.

The board also approved the purchase of 13 sets of bunker gear from NAFCO which makes forestry/extraction gear. According to the discussion the suits and lighter than their present gear. The cost will be $12,600. The board also approved renewal of liability insurance for the fire station buildings and trucks in the amount of $15,243 annually.

The board agreed to go out for bid for the purchase and installation of a camera system for town hall.

The Public Works Authority board voted to purchase a new turbidity meter at a cost of about $3,500 and the repair of two other similar units at a cost of about $6,000.

Don Farmer from Sapulpa appeared before the board to protest charging his mother for 22,000 gallons of water for a previous month. Farmer said that his 83-year-old mother normally uses about 4,000 gallons of water a month. The board agreed to adjust the sewer portion of the bill and to give his mother three months to pay off the large bill after determining that the water did flow through the meter.

In personnel actions, the town trustees agreed to accept the resignation of Board Member Stephen Perry effective Aug. 9. They also approved the hiring of a full-time dispatcher, Casey Konseen, at $11.50 an hour; approved a 90-day review pay increase for dispatcher Christina Woods; and raised Police Chief Bryan Hurry's to $17.50 an hour. They also approved the dismissal of Street and Alley laborer Timothy Sargert. The PWA board approved a $1 an hour raise for PWA laborer Bryan Rogers.
