Taylor Six, Lexington Herald-LeaderLexington Herald-Leader
A federal judge ordered a Taylor County man to pay nearly $2 million in fines and restitution related to yearslong crop insurance fraud.
Robert “Robbie” Thomas Hunt, 61, of Campbellsville, was sentenced to 12 months and a day in prison for committing crop insurance fraud from 2014 to 2021.
Hunt underreported the true amount of wheat and soybean crops on his insurance claim forms, according to court documents.
In addition, Hunt instructed his grain haulers to sell crops under the names of his two children, wife and an unnamed landowner. This resulted in over $1.6 million in fraudulent insurance overpayments, court records state.
Hunt agreed to plead guilty to crop fraud in March, according to the plea agreement.
A judge ordered him to pay $1,686,002 in restitution and was fined $250,000.
