Kelley Bernal to Lead Alliant’s SIU Division

Longtime catastrophe underwriter to lead difference in conditions (DIC) division’s ongoing growth and expansion

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- SIU, a division of Alliant Underwriting Solutions, has hired longtime catastrophe underwriter Kelley Bernal as Senior Vice President and Senior Director of Underwriting. As the new leader of SIU, Bernal will leverage her longstanding expertise within the difference in conditions (DIC) market to grow the division’s capacity, reach, and relationships within the brokerage community.

A 17-year underwriting veteran, Bernal joins SIU after serving as Vice President and Senior Earthquake Underwriter with one of the nation’s largest independent catastrophe underwriting managers. In this position, Bernal held a leadership role on the firm’s Los Angeles team while underwriting DIC policies using $120 million in domestic and international capacity.

Bernal’s innovation was instrumental in the company’s rollout of a range of internal systems and procedures that increased efficiency and improved performance. She also has experience on the carrier side of the business, where she addressed the wide-ranging needs of the brokerage community.

Bernal earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of San Diego and is a graduate of and current advisor to the Latina Global Executive Leadership Program hosted by the USC Marshall School of Business. She also holds an Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designation and is co-founder of the Emerging Insurance Professionals organization.
