Job fair for veterans to take place in Sidney

Daily Star, The (Oneonta, NY)

Nov. 9--The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce and the Delaware County Veterans Service Agency are seeking vendors for a Nov. 14 job and resource fair for veterans.

"Hiring Our Heroes" will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Sidney American Legion at 22 Union St. in Sidney.

Employers will have an opportunity to present information about their companies and job openings to a viable workforce of veterans who are eager to obtain employment, according to a media release. Employers should be prepared to interview applicants, accept resumes and offer advice about how to prepare for employment with their companies.

The fair will feature representatives from the Small Business Administration, SCORE and local financial lenders.

A table with two chairs will be provided. There is no fee to participate, but registration is required.

Job fair scheduled in Norwich

Commerce Chenango will host its fifth annual community job fair Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at SUNY Morrisville's Norwich campus at 20 Conkey Ave. in Norwich.

Participating businesses will interview candidates, and job seekers are encouraged to bring copies of their resumes. Attendees will be able to talk, one-on-one, with representatives of corporate, small business, government and non-profit organizations, according to a media release. Students in attendance will be able to fulfill their career exploration requirements.

Presenting organizations include Achieve, CDO Workforce, Chase Memorial Nursing Home and Rehab, Chenango County, the City of Norwich, Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES, GE Aviation, Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, NBT Bank/NBT Insurance, NYCM Insurance, NYS Department of Corrections, New York State Veterans' Home at Oxford, Preferred Mutual, Raymond Corporation, Springbrook, Staffworks, UHS Hospitals and Valley View Manor.

Business mixer to be held in Sidney

The Bainbridge, Sidney and Unadilla chambers of commerce will host the Tri-Town Business Mixer on Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Club 55 on Union Street in Sidney.

Business owners are invited to discuss potential growth and new opportunities for collaboration, according to a media release.

Speakers will include Terri Schunk, president of the Sidney Chamber, as well as representatives from the Sidney Federal Credit Union, the Delaware County Industrial Development Agency, Commerce Chenango and the village of Sidney's grants and economic development council.

Assemblyman Clifford Crouch, R-Bainbridge, will deliver closing remarks, according to the release.

Light hors d'oeuvres will be served, and a cash bar will be available.

Delaware chamber honors three

George Bergleitner, a broker with Delaware County Real Estate of Stamford; Eric Wedemeyer, founding broker of Coldwell Banker Timberland Properties; and Patty Wood, a member of the Walton Town Council, were named the 2019 Delaware County Heroes by the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce.

Bergleitner has "been the energy behind the Stamford Christmas Feeling Fund for nearly 50 years, donating countless amounts of food, coats, toys and other items to families in the Stamford area," according to a media release. He is a member of the Otsego-Delaware Board of Realtors and a contributor to the Stamford Rotary and Knights of Columbus.

Wedemeyer has "touched nearly every positive community effort in eastern Delaware County over the past 40 years and was instrumental in helping rebuild Margaretville following the 2011 flood," the release said. He also sits on the board of the new Water Discovery Center in Arkville.

Wood, a community volunteer, "has been a vocal and energetic advocate for the Walton community and its youth," according to the release. She is a long-time employee of the Walton Central School District. "She has been incredibly generous with her time in promoting Walton as a great place to live, do business, raise a family or retire," the release said.

A reception will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Delaware County Historical Association at 46549 State Route 10 in Delhi.

Toys for Tots campaign begins

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce and its member businesses, in partnership with Delaware Opportunities and United Way of Delaware & Otsego Counties, launched its 2019 Toys for Tots Campaign this week, according to a media release.

New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at collection boxes throughout the county until Friday, Dec. 13. Chamber staff will collect the toys and deliver them to Delaware Opportunities in Hamden for distribution the following week.

Stewart's Shops marks Veterans Day

Stewart's Shops customers can buy a single scoop ice cream cone for 50 in honor of veterans and active military members on Monday, Nov. 11, according to a media release.

"Stewart's Shops is proud to support our veterans with product and monetary donations given to over 150 veterans groups throughout the year," the release said.

All 50-cent purchases on Monday will qualify for a punch on the Scoop Club card, which is available for all Stewart's Shops customers.
