JLT Specialty USA Announces Addition of Marine Specialty Practice

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- JLT Specialty USA, a U.S. subsidiary of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc. (JLT), one of the world’s leading specialty-focused providers of insurance, reinsurance and employee benefits related advice, brokerage and associated services, today announced the addition of a marine specialty practice. This team will build and grow the marine specialty capabilities, and manage and service existing clients with tailored and dedicated excellence.

The marine specialty practice comprises professionals with significant experience, running successful marine-focused risk management practices. The individuals appointed to this team include:

  • John G. Betz, Senior Vice President;
  • Christopher J. Maro, Vice President;
  • Kenneth M. Fichtelman, Assistant Vice President

Most recently, John Betz was the Area President for Arthur J. Gallagher and led the Blue and Brown Water Marine Practice. Previously, he was the founding partner of B&P International, and served as President from 1987 to 2004 where, under his leadership, B&P grew to become an internationally recognized brokerage and adjusting firm. Betz has over 30+ years as a marine insurance brokerage professional, including extensive experience in claims and claims handling. Betz received a B.S. from The University of North Carolina, Greensboro.

Prior to joining JLT Specialty USA, Christopher Maro served as Partner for the Howden Marine Group, where he was responsible for managing all New York operations and new business development. Maro began his career in the Maritime industry sailing for US Flag Government operated vessels in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following his seagoing career, Maro made a transition from seafarer to corporate business and entered into the Marine Insurance field, focusing on the Blue Water and large Brown Water areas of the business. Maro’s previous background includes over 11+ years at Arthur J. Gallagher as a Senior Vice President working within the Marine Group with specific concentration in Marine Liabilities, Hull & Machinery and financial risks. Maro received a B.S. in Marine Transportation & Business Management and is completing his Master of Science in International Business & Transportation all from The State University of New York, Maritime College.

Kenneth Fichtelman comes to JLT Specialty USA having most recently served as Associate Partner for the Howden Marine Group and is responsible for the direct servicing and placing of specialized programs on behalf of the US domiciled clientele. Prior to that Fichtelman was a marine insurance broker with a focus on Hull & Machinery and Protection & Indemnity coverage’s. Other areas of specialty include Charterer's Liability, War Risks, Kidnap & Ransom, Marine & War Loss of Hire, and Drug Delay LOH coverage. Fichtelman holds a B.S. in Maritime Operations & Technology from The United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point.
