June 16--Last March, when firefighters from Rogers County went to western Oklahoma to help fight out-of-control wildfires, all went without the expectation of anything but helping their brothers in need.
Thursday morning in Claremore, however, each of the respective departments were thanked and presented a check for $1,500 each on behalf of an appreciative Oklahoma-based insurance company.
American Farmers & Ranchers (AFR) Mutual Insurance Company rewarded Claremore, Verdigris, and the Limestone Fire Districts with checks for their efforts in combating the recent northwest Oklahoma fires.
Local AFR insurance agent Ken Dorsey said he was "proud" to present the checks to Claremore Fire Chief Sean Douglas, Verdigris Fire Chief Mike Shaffer, and Carl Smith with the Limestone Fire Protection District on behalf of American Farmers & Ranchers (AFR) Mutual Insurance Company.
"Fire departments, police departments, emergency people are the servants of our communities -- we need to appreciate them and the sacrifices they're willing to make for us," Dorsey said. "This (donation) is American Farmers & Ranchers small way of thanking them for their service and all they do for the public."
Checks were presented to the Rogers County and other Oklahoma fire departments to help defray costs associated with fighting the fires in March.
