Indiana Department of Insurance names general counsel

Sept. 20--Indiana Department of Insurance named Amy L. Beard general counsel of the agency. The general counsel is the chief legal officer of the agency, providing a variety of legal services to the commissioner, staff and agency.
Beard has been with the Indiana Department of Insurance since 2013 serving as legal counsel. She provided legal support on insurance matters to all divisions within the agency and supervised the department's role in acquisitions of Indiana domestic insurance companies. She served as the final reviewer of the insurance holding companies' filings of material transactions and provided legal review for all financial division recommended actions regarding licensing, renewals and registrations of insurance companies and other regulated entities.
Beard graduated from Castle High School. She earned her law degree from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, after earning her undergraduate degrees in economics and Spanish from the University of Southern Indiana. She holds the designation of associate professional in insurance regulation from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). She serves as a director for the University of Southern Indiana Foundation Board of Directors.
