Humana to Add JSA Medical Group’s New Primary Care Practices Designed Exclusively for Medicare Beneficiaries to Florida Medicare Advantage Plan Networks

Business Wire

Medicare beneficiaries will have more choices when seeking care designed for their needs

SARASOTA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- To offer patient-centered care for Medicare beneficiaries, JSA Medical Group, a DaVita Medical Group (NYSE: DVA), and Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) have teamed up to add one primary care practice to Humana’s Medicare Advantage Plan network in Florida.

This Smart News Release features multimedia. View the full release here: http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20161128005884/en/

Humana is adding this new primary care practice location to its network in an effort to improve access to high quality care and helping to increase patients’ ability to manage their own care which may improve their health and well-being. The new practice operated by JSA Medical Group accepts certain Medicare Advantage plans administered by Humana and does not accept Medicare Advantage plans administered by other carriers. The new practice will also accept traditional Medicare.

The new JSA Medical Group primary care practice is located at 2415 University Pkwy., Building 3, Ste. 112 in Sarasota. The practice is currently accepting appointments and has begun to see patients.

Humana’s value-based relationships with providers, like JSA Medical Group, are aimed at transforming health care by offering proactive, patient-focused care for Medicare beneficiaries. Humana and JSA Medical Group strive to meet monthly to review member cases and issues. This helps ensure that members aren’t simply treated for what ails them, but are also provided with a more comprehensive team working on a plan to keep them on the path to their best health.

“We are excited to partner with Humana to increase health care options for Medicare beneficiaries in Florida,” said Carol Pittman, M.D., Medical Director at JSA Medical Group. “As we continue to work together, it’s clear that our organizations are both dedicated and committed to providing comprehensive, patient-focused care.”

JSA Medical Group offers a unique coordinated care approach, in which primary care providers, specialists and professional staff work as a coordinated team to help manage all aspects of patient’s medical care and overall health. This includes a strong focus on prevention and individualized care.

As a result, the primary care practice offers more services to patients than a traditional doctor’s office, including:

  • A health coach assigned to each member to help guide them through the complex health care system.
  • A care team that spends as much quality, face-to-face time with members as needed to discuss all of the issues that can affect their health.
  • The convenience of being able to walk in to one of these centers without a scheduled appointment and often be seen the same day.

Other benefits that members may experience include:

  • A waiting room designed for the comfort of patients.
  • Staff familiarity with the member’s Medicare Advantage insurance, which simplifies billing issues/questions.
  • An activity center that is available at no cost and is open to the community. The activity center will offer seminars and other activities each week that tie directly to JSA Medical Group’s focus on preventative care and improving patient’s overall wellness.

Last year, JSA Medical Group and Humana teamed up to offer similar, dedicated care for Humana Medicare beneficiaries in Florida. Humana Medicare Advantage members now have dedicated access to three JSA Medical Group practices in Florida – the new location in Sarasota and two in Bradenton.

“As our health care needs change, it’s important for Medicare beneficiaries to find health care that can consistently meet those needs. That’s why we are excited to expand the relationship with JSA Medical Group and be available to more of our Florida members in order to help them get and stay healthy,” said Deb Galloway, Central Florida Medicare President for Humana. “Humana has a solid Medicare history, so we bring strong capabilities to the transformational health care relationship with JSA Medical Group. Together, we hope to make a difference for our members.”

In 2015, on average, Humana Medicare Advantage members served by physicians under value-based care arrangements experienced 6 percent fewer ER visits; higher screening rates, including those for colorectal cancer (+8 percent) and breast cancer (+6 percent); and healthier outcomes compared to members who were treated by physicians with standard Medicare Advantage reimbursement arrangements.

As of Sept. 30, 2016, Humana has 1.8 million individual Medicare Advantage members and 200,000 commercial members who are cared for by 49,600 primary care providers, in more than 900 value-based relationships across 43 states and Puerto Rico.

As of Sept. 30, 2016, approximately 63 percent of Humana individual Medicare Advantage members are in value-based payment relationships. Humana’s goal is to have 75 percent of individual Medicare Advantage members in value-based payment models by the end of 2017.
