How Rep. Mcsally Voted to Cut Medicaid, Medicare Programs for Arizonans

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

PHOENIX, Arizona, March 20 -- The Arizona Democratic Party issued the following news release:

Congresswoman Martha McSally once claimed Arizonans enrolled in the state's AHCCCS program would have the "same coverage" if the nation's healthcare law were repealed. But one year ago, McSally ended up lying to Arizonans by voting to strip 400,000 Arizonans of their healthcare.

Further, Rep. McSally has voted to gut the nation's Medicare program. The Washington GOP establishment's tax law, for example, is expected to cut more than $477 million dollars from Medicare in the state, and Congresswoman McSally gleefully voted in lockstep with establishment Republicans for the measure.

"One year may have gone by since Congresswoman McSally tried to take away our health care, but Arizona voters won't forget this betrayal," said Drew Anderson, senior communications advisor. "Arizonans have learned not to trust Congresswoman McSally, because she will always put her political party ahead of Arizona."

These healthcare votes tell a larger story of the number of times Congresswoman McSally put her political party ahead of hardworking Arizonans. Between voting to cut healthcare access for the 2.8 million Arizonans with a pre-existing condition and skyrocketing insurance premiums in the state by $2,000, Martha McSally has shown Arizonans that their priorities come second to the party bosses in Washington, DC.

McSally Promised to Protect Arizona AHCCCS

But Then Voted to Cut the Program, Putting 400,000 Arizonans at Risk of Losing Their Insurance

Green Valley News: Medicaid Expansion In Arizona Would "Go Away" Under AHCA. "Medicaid expansion in Arizona brought another 400,000-plus people onto the rolls when it was signed in 2013. That would go away under this plan because of state requirements calling for the reduction or elimination of Medicaid eligibility and/or benefits if the feds reduce their contribution. ... That said, the vote could foist tremendous financial burdens onto states. ... The GOP plan would allow states to waive certain protections, including essential health benefits that now must be covered." [Editorial, Green Valley News, 5/07/17]
