Hatch Announces Hearing to Review Issues Impacting Healthcare Costs and Coverage

Congressional Documents & Publications

WASHINGTON -- Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) will convene a hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, to discuss health care. The hearing, "Health Care: Issues Impacting Cost and Coverage" will occur at 10 a.m. in Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room 215.

"In the seven years since Obamacare was signed into law, healthcare premiums have skyrocketed and in turn middle-class Americans have been saddled with increasingly higher taxes and healthcare costs," Hatch said. "In fact, middle-class families have seen their spending on health care increase in the double digits and many of these families receive no additional assistance to help mitigate the impact of these rising costs. As Obamacare continues to fail, Congress must do more than simply bailout what has proven to be a broken system. This hearing will allow Senate Finance Committee members to hear from experts about the drivers of increasing healthcare costs and the importance of significant, long-term reforms to Obamacare."

The witnesses at Tuesday's hearing will be:

* Avik Roy, Co-Founder and President, Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity, Austin, TX

* Ed Haislmaier, Preston A. Wells, Jr. Senior Research Fellow, The Heritage Foundation, Washington, DC

* Andy Slavitt, Former Acting Administrator, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, Edina, MN

* Aviva Aron-Dine, Senior Fellow and Senior Counselor, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, Washington, DC

Who: Senate Finance Committee

What: "Health Care: Issues Impacting Cost and Coverage"

Where: 215 Dirksen Senate Office Building; Washington, D.C. 20510

When: Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017 at 10 a.m.

The Senate Finance Committee, the committee with the largest jurisdiction in either House of Congress, oversees more than 50 percent of the federal budget and has jurisdiction over large portions of the American healthcare system, including Medicare, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
