Governor Brown Appoints Berri Leslie as Deputy Chief of Staff

SALEM, Ore., March 29 -- Gov. Kate Brown, D-Ore., issued the following news release:
Governor Kate Brown today appointed Berri Leslie as Deputy Chief of Staff. Leslie will be responsible for management of policy staff in the Governor's office.
"Berri's depth of management and policy experience with Oregon's state agencies is an invaluable asset to the Governor's Office as we adapt to meet challenges, both old and new," said Governor Brown. "Berri's commitment to Oregon has been proven by her leadership in complex policy implementations and agency restructures. I look forward to her service as the Governor's Office takes a creative approach to ensuring everyone in Oregon can thrive."
Most recently, Leslie served as Administrator of the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace, implementing the transition of Cover Oregon to the Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS). Leslie also served as deputy administrator of the DCBS Insurance Division, leading day-to-day operations of the division and working with stakeholders on implementing the Affordable Care Act. Other leadership roles include managing the regulation of mortgage lending in Oregon during the 2008 financial crisis and, more recently, leading a restructuring of the Oregon Construction Contractors Board.
Leslie graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in political science and from Portland State University with a master's degree in public administration.
Leslie will join the Governor's Office on April 1st.
