GEICO now accepting nominations for 2015 Military Service Awards

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- For the 28th consecutive year, GEICO is once again looking for top volunteers in each military branch as it kicks off the 2015 GEICO Military Service Awards.

Since 1988 the annual program has honored one enlisted member from each of the five military services and one enlisted member from the guard/reserves forces for their outstanding service to their military and civilian communities.

The deadline for entries is October 31, 2015.

"Each year we're proud to honor military members from the five military branches and the guard/reserves for their contributions to the public good," said Jon Thompson, director of GEICO's military department. "There are countless enlisted servicemen and servicewomen across the country and abroad who volunteer their time and energy to improve their communities, and it's important that we acknowledge their contributions."

Units, bases, posts and activities should follow their service's and DoD Reserve Affairs' established procedures to nominate enlisted members who have provided outstanding service to the military or civilian community through noteworthy achievements in one of the fields recognized by the GEICO Military Service Awards.

GEICO presents awards in three categories:

1) Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention

2) Fire Safety and Fire Prevention

3) Traffic Safety and Accident Prevention

GEICO Military Service Award recipients are granted a cash award from the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. from wherever they are serving.

The 2015 GEICO Military Service Awards ceremony will be held on April 25, 2016, with military officials and GEICO representatives in attendance.
