Fusion5 Announces Formation to Meet Provider Needs in Value-Based Healthcare Models Including CMS’ BPCI Advanced Initiative

Managed Care Weekly Digest

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Managed Care Weekly Digest -- Fusion5, a value-based healthcare company, has been launched by a group of experienced executives and is backed by Owens & Minor, Inc., a Fortune 500 company and global leader in healthcare services (see also Fusion5).

Owens & Minor, headquartered in Richmond, Va., made a strategic investment in Fusion5 to provide a fully integrated solution in both commercial and government value-based payment programs. The current focus is on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) Advanced, and offering solutions as a convener as well as a suite of services for physician group practices, acute care hospitals and other healthcare providers nationwide.

Fusion5 will partner with providers to address the complexities of implementing and managing value-based payment programs, including BPCI Advanced. The company's solutions integrate intelligent data analysis, patient tracking and management, support with care redesign and provider networks, and comprehensive training and research to support providers in their effort to improve care outcomes, reduce costs and increase profitability.

"We have assembled a proven team that knows what it takes to thrive in value-based payments," said Jim Gera, CEO of Fusion5. "Our successful experience with the previous BPCI initiative, coupled with our long-term strategy branching out in other service lines, including the commercial, managed care and self-insured space, will enable us to secure significant business opportunities, such as our new partnership with The OrthoForum."

Fusion5 recently formed a partnership with The OrthoForum, a national physician association comprised of the top orthopedic practices in the United States. Fusion5 will support individual member practices in BPCI Advanced and other value-based care arrangements.

"The OrthoForum interviewed a variety of firms to support and partner with our members and Fusion5 was the only organization that represented a true long-term partnership relationship due to its extensive experience in bundled payments and value-based care across a wide spectrum of payor, provider and technology sectors," said Glenn Sumner, CEO of The OrthoForum. "Fusion5's combination of significant experience, deep understanding, and commitment to supporting the OrthoForum and our members made the company a compelling choice, and we are excited to have Fusion5 as our partner in BPCI Advanced."

The Fusion5 team is comprised of executives with experience in physician groups, large provider organizations, post-acute care providers, and managed care organizations. Led by Gera, previously a senior vice president at a nationally recognized BPCI convener, the executive team includes: Sue Caito, Chief Clinical Officer; Gerald Rupp, Ph.D., Chief Innovation Officer; Michael Levoshko, Chief Technology Officer; Denise Gallagher, Chief Operating Officer; Peter Lougee, Senior Vice President of Provider Management; and Ryan Dillon, Director of Operations.
