Friday Health Plans Sponsors Art Therapy Program for People Affected by Boulder County Fires

The Superior Chamber of Commerce will offer the program to residents

SUPERIOR, Colo. , March 24, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Friday Health Plans, a Colorado-based Affordable Care Act health insurance company, recently awarded the Superior Chamber of Commerce $20,000 to develop an art therapy program for individuals affected by the Boulder County fires. The art therapy program will take place at the Superior Chamber of Commerce Business Assistance Center and began earlier this month. The program was created by the town of Superior Cultural Arts and Public Spaces Advisory Committee.

The goal of the program is to help residents process the trauma of the recent fires providing them with support in a safe environment. Art therapy is an evidence-based type of therapy that can help the brain process and reformat traumatic memories and imagery. Sessions are free to current or displaced residents of the town of Superior, city of Louisville and unincorporated areas of Boulder County due to the Friday Health Plans program sponsorship.

Civic leaders of the areas affected by the fires are continually seeking ways to help their communities heal and understand that the road to recovery is a multifaceted, long-term journey.

The fires took place on Dec. 30, 2021, in Boulder County destroying 1,084 buildings and injuring six people in the town of Superior, city of Louisville and unincorporated Boulder County areas.
