Poll: Do you agree with Auburn City Council rejecting firefighters union contract?
The Citizen, Auburn, N.Y.The Citizen
In a surprising development, Auburn City Council on Thursday rejected a proposed three-year contract with the city's firefighters union.
Mayor Jimmy Giannettino and Councilors Craig Diego and Rhoda Overstreet-Wilson each cited the contract's language on contributions to health insurance premiums as part of the reason for their vote, believing they should be higher. Diego additionally criticized its 3% raises amid the city's financial woes, as well as language that would prevent layoffs due to budgetary reasons.
Councilors Terry Cuddy and Christina Calarco voted to approve the contract.
