NEWTON — Catawba County residents and business leaders are invited to an open house on Thursday to review and discuss the latest update to local flood hazard and risk data compiled by the National Flood Insurance Program and the North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program (NCFMP).
The open house will take place from 4-6 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room of the Catawba County Government Center, located at 25 Government Drive in Newton.
The public open house will provide an opportunity for residents and other stakeholders to see the results of the NCFMP's revised studies and flood hazard risk data. Representatives from the state program will be available to answer questions about the hazard data update process and provide information about submitting appeals or comments to the revised studies. They will also share information about flood insurance coverage and floodplain management.
County and municipal staff will be on hand to help residents locate their properties in relationship to the flood hazard data in order to determine their level of flood risk.
Flood hazard data may also be accessed online at http://fris. nc.gov/fris/.
