April 16--ATHENS TOWNSHIP -- A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal will be called to assist in investigating the cause of a Sunday night fire that destroyed an unoccupied Athens Township home.
"It's pretty much gone, there's very little left," Chief Justin Sullivan of Townville Volunteer Fire Department said of the two-story home on Eddie Road, located north of Townville.
Volunteer firefighters from a total of six companies were called out around 6 p.m. after the home at 19534 Eddie Road was spotted in flames, Sullivan said. The home is located about five miles north of Townville in Athens Township.
The home is owned by Ernest Peterson and Shirley Sherman, but wasn't occupied, Sullivan said. There was no active electrical service to the home, he said.
The owners have insurance on the home, Sullivan said.
The cause of the fire isn't known and a state police fire marshal will be contacted to aid in the investigation, Sullivan said.
There were no injuries to any firefighters, he said.
Townville was assisted at the scene by Cambridge Springs, Centerville, Bloomfield Township, Blooming Valley and East Mead Township volunteer fire departments. Firemen returned to quarters at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday.
