Fire destroys storage building behind rural Wilson County home
Wilson Times, The (NC)
Jul. 7--LUCAMA -- Firefighters are investigating the cause of a Tuesday fire in an outbuilding behind a rural Wilson County home.
Black Creek Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Collier said flames were visible on the building's entire left side when firefighters arrived.
Collier said the resident had mowed the yard Tuesday afternoon and had recently put the mower back in the building before the fire started.
The fire was behind a home at 6920 Gourd Branch Road outside Lucama, about 500 feet east of Perry Road in the Buckwood subdivision in southern Wilson County'sBlack Creek Township.
Collier described the structure as a storage building.
"He kept some lawn equipment in there and some shelving units," Collier said. "We don't really know at this point."
Collier said it took 30 minutes to get the fire under control.
"We're just going to be investigating and figuring out what started it and place a value on what they lost. After that, it goes to the insurance company," Collier said.
The Black Creek, Crossroads, Fremont and Stantonsburg-Moyton volunteer fire departments responded to the fire along with the Wilson County Sheriff's Office.
About 18 to 20 firefighters put out the fire and no one was injured, Collier said.
According to the Wilson County property tax records, Beth Lamm is the property's owner.
