March 05--FARMINGTON -- About 40 firefighters from six towns responded to a fire Sunday night that began around a wood stove area in the kitchen of a house at 500 Town Farm Road, Farmington Fire Capt. Scott Baxter said Monday.
No one was injured.
A tenant was operating a wood stove in the kitchen when the area between where the wood stove pipe goes into the wall and the chimney area caught fire, he said.
The fire burned the surrounding area and extended up to a storage area and burned a little of the rafters.
It was pretty much confined to the area around the wood stove, he said.
Firefighters put salvage covers on items in the kitchen. There was some smoke damage in the living quarters and some water and smoke damage in the kitchen.
Firefighters accessed water from a fire hydrant.
The house is not a total loss and can be renovated. But it is not livable now, Baxter said.
The owner of the house is Gary Bergeron of New Sharon. He has insurance on the building. The tenant's name was unknown. He was able to get out of the house safely.
Farmington firefighters were assisted by firefighters from Wilton, Jay, Temple, Chesterville and Strong. NorthStar EMS ambulance personnel and Farmington police also responded to the fire reported at about 6:53 p.m.
