Findings from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics Has Provided New Data on Food Safety (Food Safety Risks and Defensive Behavior: Evidence From Health Insurance): Foodborne Diseases and Conditions – Food Safety

Insurance Daily News

2023 DEC 05 (NewsRx) -- By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Insurance Daily News -- Investigators publish new report on Foodborne Diseases and Conditions - Food Safety. According to news reporting originating in Chengdu, People’s Republic of China, by NewsRx journalists, research stated, “We innovatively investigate public defensive behavior in response to food safety risks.”

The news reporters obtained a quote from the research from the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, “Using novel transaction-level data from a large insurance company in China, we empirically find a significant positive correlation between food safety risks and health insurance purchases. The causality is identified by 2SLS regressions with instrumental variables and a quasi-natural experiment.”

According to the news reporters, the research concluded: “Further analysis shows that the insurance effect is a result of residents’ irrational overreaction and defensive psychology towards food safety risks.”

This research has been peer-reviewed.
