Driver in pedestrian death faces charges
The driver of a vehicle that struck and killed an East Bend woman is facing charges

The driver of a vehicle that struck and killed an East Bend woman in late March is facing charges in connection with the collision, authorities said Wednesday.
Jerry Lee Speaks was charged Tuesday with involuntary manslaughter, careless and reckless driving, unsafe movement and driving without any liability insurance, Mount Airy police said.
Bonnie Smith Hennings, 86, died April 1 at Atrium Health Wake Baptist Medical Center, police said.
Hennings, a pedestrian, was struck by a vehicle driven by Speaks in the Walmart parking lot on Rockford Street in Mount Airy, police said. Officers responded at 6:11 p.m. on March 31 to the scene regarding a collision involving a pedestrian.
Hennings was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist for treatment, police said.
