Don't give Trump another chance to fail

Editor: It was gratifying to read your Sept. 12 article "Inflation reaches a 3-year low." The rate of inflation in August was 2.5%, down slightly from July. The peak rate of inflation, 9.1%, was reached in mid-2022.

Inflationary pressures on the economy were clearly predictable in the wake of the recovery from the pandemic. Demand was severely depressed by the pandemic, causing a steep decline in the production of consumer goods and services. When post-pandemic demand surged it was difficult for producers to keep pace. Prices rose accordingly.

The downward trend of inflation will clear the way for the Federal Reserve to begin lowering interest rates.

The article also reported that the median inflation-adjusted household income rose 4% last year to more than $80,000.

These economic indicators paint a far brighter picture of the state of the country than Trump, who claims we are a "failing nation."

Remember it was Trump who urged the Congress to "repeal and replace" the Affordable Care Act. The Congress failed to do it more than 60 times. More than 50 million Americans have obtained health insurance under what we know as Obamacare. Many of them suffer from pre-existing conditions, for which they were disqualified from coverage prior the ACA.

Replace? With what? Even now, after whining about Obamacare since 2015, Trump offers no replacement plan.

When asked for one at the recent debate, Trump responded that he has the "concepts of a plan." This phrase will go down in the history of presidential debates, along with his statement that some states "are executing babies after birth" and that Haitian immigrants are eating pets in Springfield, Ohio.

Trump promised a balanced budget. He failed. He promised to repeal Obamacare. He failed bigly.

As Kamala Harris proclaims, "we are not going back" to allow him another chance to fail.
