Donegal Group/Donegal Mutual Chief Sees 2016 Pay Rise 5.3 Pct.

A top executive at two related Marietta insurance firms saw his total compensation grow 5.3 percent in 2016, a new document shows.

Donald H. Nikolaus, Donegal Group's chairman and Donegal Mutual Insurance's president and chief executive, earned compensa-

tion valued at $1.56 million.

The total included an $800,000 salary, a $510,000 bonus, stock options valued at $145,000 and other compensation (mostly fees for serving on the board) of $101,000.

Donegal Mutual formed Donegal Group, an insurance holding company that's publicly held, in 1986. The two firms conduct business together as Donegal Insurance Group.

The compensation of Nikolaus and other top Donegal Group/Donegal Mutual executives was disclosed Thursday in Donegal Group's proxy for its April 20 annual meeting.

Nikolaus also is a partner in the Lancaster-based law firm of Nikolaus & Hohenadel, general counsel for Donegal Group and Donegal Mutual.

They paid Nikolaus & Hohenadel $431,000 in legal fees last year, according to the proxy.

Total 2016 compensation for other top Donegal Group/Donegal Mutual executives was:

- Kevin G. Burke, Donegal Group's president and chief executive officer, and Donegal Mutual's executive vice president and chief operating officer, $844,000.

- Cyril J. Greenya, senior vice president of both firms and Donegal Mutual's chief underwriting officer, $675,000.

- Jeffrey D. Miller, executive vice president and chief financial officer of both firms, $712,000.

- Sanjay Pandey, senior vice president of both firms and Donegal Mutual's chief information officer, $593,000.

- Robert G. Shenk, senior vice president of both firms, $608,000.

- Daniel J. Wagner, senior vice president and treasurer of both firms, $596,000.
