CHESTERFIELD -- Charlie Gitto's from the Hill will close indefinitely here after its insurance claims from a July flood were denied, the restaurant announced this week.
Nearly 100 employees are expected to lose their jobs at the Italian restaurant at 15525 Olive Boulevard, which has been closed since a July 22 storm caused flooding and severe damage.
"Unfortunately, a 10-year run in Chesterfield has come to an abrupt end and it couldn't come at a worse time. Two days before Christmas, we had to inform our employees, who have been anticipating a reopening in the spring of 2020, that those hopes are fading. It is beyond devastating," said Charlie Gitto Jr. in a statement.
The restaurant's insurance provider, Wisconsin-based Secura, denied outstanding claims for the flood damage on Monday, according to the restaurant. A spokeswoman for Secura could not be reached Friday.
The restaurant is considering legal action, according to Gitto.
Charlie Gitto's restaurants in the Hill neighborhood of St. Louis and at Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights remain open.
