Democratic Party of Georgia: Key Debate Moment – David Perdue Slams Affordable Care Act Four Times Despite Majority of Georgians Supporting Keeping ACA Intact

ATLANTA, Georgia, Oct. 30 -- The Democratic Party of Georgia issued the following news release:

In one of the most shocking moments of last night's debate, when pressed by Jon Ossoff on the harmful Republican agenda to strip away critical protections for Georgians with pre-existing conditions, Senator David Perdue proudly touted his record of voting against the landmark health care law that a clear majority of Georgians support, telling Georgians the truth for once: "I voted against the Obamacare Affordable Care Act."

On a second occasion, Perdue AGAIN bragged about his toxic record saying "I voted against the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare."

A majority of Georgians want to keep the Affordable Care Act and its protections for people with pre-existing conditions intact, yet Perdue touted his clear opposition to his own constituents in order to prioritize his anti-health care agenda which would rip away protections for 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions.

Senator Perdue has come under heavy scrutiny for attempting to "obscure [his] position on pre-existing conditions," even running deceptive ads that claim he wants to protect coverage for pre-existing conditions despite PolitiFact having deemed that claim "False."

Perdue also pledged his "strongest support" for President Trump's Supreme Court nominee and longtime, vocal opponent of the Affordable Care Act - who legal scholars say poses a threat to safeguarding coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.

"Senator Perdue is clearly panicking and knows his agenda to strip away health care coverage and protections for pre-existing conditions is not just deeply unpopular, but will also certainly cost his reelection," said Braxton Brewington, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. "There's no way for Perdue to cover up where he stands on this critical issue, and last night Georgians saw for themselves Perdue's explicit agenda to rip away health care with no other plan in place."
