Daschle named to board of advisors for medical cannabis investment company

May 21-- May 21--Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle has been named to Northern Swan Holdings board of advisors, according to a news release from the company.

Northern Swan is an investment firm with a focus on the international cannabis industry.

"Senator Daschle is a preeminent expert in health and wellness whose experience in health care policy reform will be invaluable to our company's expansion in the global medical cannabis market," said Kyle Detwiler, CEO of Northern Swan. "Having worked tirelessly as a public servant for almost 30 years to ensure all Americans have access to affordable health care, we look forward to working closely with Senator Daschle as he brings a similar level of commitment and dedication to medical cannabis."

Daschle, born in Aberdeen, is a Central High School and South Dakota State University graduate and an Air Force veteran. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1978, serving eight years before moving to the Senate from 1987 to 2005.

Since, he's worked in a number of capacities advising on public policy, including founding the Daschle Group.

Detwiler is also a South Dakota native, according to the release.

During an interview on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" Monday, Daschle spoke of the "enormous promise that the plant provides medically," specifically mentioning the benefits of medical cannabis for youth epilepsy and pain management.

Northern Swan assists emerging companies in improving distribution and growing brand value in the international cannabis industry, according to the release.
