CVS, Worcester offer drive-by flu shot clinic at Senior Center

WORCESTER - CVS Pharmacy is partnering with the city to offer flu, pneumonia and shingles immunizations at a drive-by clinic for seniors in September.

With support from the Senior Center and the divisions of public health and emergency management, CVS will offer the immunizations by appointment Sept. 12, at Vernon Medical Center, 10 Winthrop St.

The immunizations will be given by appointment only. The deadline to register is Sept. 7. To schedule an appointment, call the Senior Center at (508) 799-1232 and leave a message to receive a return call. Seniors must have their Medicare card number and/or other health insurance to make an appointment, and will need to bring the card to the clinic.

Masks are required when arriving for appointments.

CVS also announced Thursday that it has installed time-delay safes in all its Massachusetts locations and has installed safe medical disposal units at several stores across the region, including Central Massachusetts. The time-delay safes are intended to prevent robberies and access to on-demand controlled narcotics.

Located in the pharmacy area of the CVS store and similar in design to a postal box, the safe medication disposal units allow customers to drop off unused prescriptions in a container or in sealed plastic bags if liquids or multiple medications are included. The local stores carrying the disposal units include 74 East Main St., Westboro; 131 Main St., Spencer; 676 Southbridge St., Auburn; 454 Electric Ave., Lunenburg; 1653 Main St., Athol; 302 Main St., Oxford; 63 Canal St., Millbury; 100 Worcester St., North Grafton; and 301 Central St., Winchendon.
