J. Beck, Carmichael
A: Brian J. Stone, Jamal M. Shehadeh and Saber A. Shehadeh are accused of collecting $1.5 million in insurance money in an arson fraud scheme.
According to federal court records available online, they are scheduled for a trial confirmation hearing July 13, with a jury trial set for Sept. 25.
The three were indicted in federal court in Sacramento on March 18, 2016, accused of participating in an insurance fraud scheme that included setting fires at commercial buildings in the Sacramento area.
The Sacramento Bee reported that Jamal Shehadeh, a Sacramento businessman, is charged with 60 criminal counts, including arson, mail and wire fraud, and money laundering involving seven fires at six commercial buildings, including Tru Value Market in Sacramento.
Saber Shehadeh, a relative of Jamal Shehadeh, owned and operated the market at 10th and E streets in downtown Sacramento and a nearby building that were destroyed by fire.
Stone allegedly provided business services, including assisting with insurance claims, after seven fires in Sacramento and Carmichael between 2009 and 2013.
Jamal Shehadeh is being held in Sacramento County Main Jail and is not eligible for bail. Stone and Saber Shehadeh were released on bond.
