WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 -- Rep. Joe Courtney, D-Connecticut, issued the following news release:
Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) today announced that the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded a federal grant of more than $62,000 to the Stafford #1 Fire Department. The new federal funding will help the department to procure new equipment to support the functioning of self-contained breathing apparatuses.
"It's great to see more federal resources being directed back home to us in eastern Connecticut," said Congressman Courtney. "FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters grant program has had real success in providing resources to our local fire departments, but the grant awards have become highly competitive - the awards aren't just handed out, and it takes a lot of work to win them. I'm glad that I was able to lend my support to the Stafford Fire Department's grant application, and proud of Town of Stafford for putting in the work to identify and successfully apply for these federal grant dollars."
Stafford #1 Fire Department will receive a federal grant award of $62,858 through FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The new federal investment will be used to procure new equipment to support department's self-contained breathing apparatus refill system.
In December 2018, Congressman Courtney wrote to FEMA's Deputy Assistant Administrator for Grant Programs in support of Stafford #1 Fire Department's grant application, click here to read the letter.
