Comcast Activating Free XFINITY WiFi Hot Spots in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina Following Hurricane Matthew

Business Wire

Thousands of WiFi internet hot spots are now available for public use

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- To alleviate some of the burden from storm-related damages and help residents and emergency personnel stay connected in the wake of Hurricane Matthew, Comcast is opening up thousands of XFINITY WiFi hot spots in areas impacted by the storm in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. These WiFi hot spots are open to anyone who needs them – including non-Comcast subscribers.

Hot spots are currently open in the following storm impacted areas:

  • Florida:
    • Duval County
    • Indian River County
    • Martin County
    • Nassau County
    • St. Lucie County
    • St. Johns County
  • Georgia:
    • Bryan County
    • Camden County
    • Chatham County
    • Effingham County
    • Glynn County
    • Liberty County
    • McIntosh County
  • South Carolina
    • Beaufort County
    • Berkeley County
    • Charleston County
    • Colleton County
    • Dorchester County
    • Jasper County

“Our thoughts are with those impacted by Hurricane Matthew. Communication after a devastating event like this is so important for residents, emergency workers and volunteers,” said Amy Smith, Regional Senior Vice President for Comcast in Florida. “We’re opening up our XFINITY WiFi hot spots to help provide internet access, allowing people to stay connected to family and friends and handle important household and business tasks, including processing insurance claims, and accessing other important information and resources.”

“During times like this, it is critical that we keep residents connected to family, friends and emergency resources,” said Doug Guthrie, Regional Senior Vice President for the Comcast South region. “By creating WiFi access, we hope that Comcast is able to provide some degree of support during this difficult time.”

Login information:

  • For a map of XFINITY WiFi hot spots, users should visit www.xfinity.com/wifi.
  • Once at a hot spot, the user should select the xfinitywifi network name in the list of available hot spots and then launch a browser.
  • XFINITY Internet customers can sign in with their username and password, and will be automatically connected at XFINITY WiFi hot spots in the future.
  • Non-XFINITY Internet subscribers should visit the “Not an XFINITY Internet Customer” section on the sign-in page to get started.
  • Non-customers will be able to renew their complimentary sessions every 2 hours through Monday October 17, 2016.

Comcast Service Update:

  • As a reminder, emergency management procedures in Florida dictate that power must be restored first and we must receive clearance that it is safe for our crews to begin any restoration work.
  • For the vast majority of customers, service should be restored as power comes back on in their homes.
  • If you do have electrical power but your XFINITY service has not yet come back on, you may need to restart or reset your devices, including wireless gateways, modems, routers and cable boxes. You can also chat online with an agent or visit customer.xfinity.com/help-and-support.
  • The most effective way to get outage updates for your area and information about your Comcast service is to visit www.xfinity.com/MyAccount or to access the My Account app from any secure, Internet-enabled mobile device.
  • We want to thank our customers for their patience and continued understanding as we work to restore service as quickly and safely as possible to those who may still be impacted.
