Closed after flooding, Rovezzi’s restaurant in Sturbridge puts out for-sale sign

March 27-- Mar. 27--STURBRIDGE -- Rovezzi's Ristorante is on the market with an asking price of $829,000.

Christopher J. Rovezzi, owner of the restaurant at 2 School St. in the Fiskdale section of town, could not be reached for comment.

According to the restaurant's website, Rovezzi's will be closed at least through June, because of "catastrophic water damage and extensive repairs."

On Jan. 11, a pipe in the restaurant reportedly froze, spilling 7,200 gallons of water at a rate of 30 gallons per minute for two hours. Thirty to 40 percent of the 5,000-square-foot restaurant, which seats 120 people in four dining rooms, has to be torn out and redone.

Attorney James P. Ehrhard, owner and manager of the firm Ehrhard & Associates PC, is representing Rovezzi's Ristorante.

"The fact of the matter is that Rovezzi's Ristorante closed for the single reason that there was a frozen pipe next to the bathroom on the second floor," Mr. Ehrhard said. "It broke and flooded the restaurant. The insurance company has failed and continues to fail to fulfill its contractual obligations to Rovezzi's."

Mr. Ehrhard said Rovezzi's Ristorante was doing "solid" financially but not good enough to have 11 weeks with no revenue and without stopgap insurance payments.

As for the restaurant being for sale, Mr. Ehrhard said the for-sale sign might not be there for too long.

"All options are on the table," Mr. Ehrhard said.

Rovezzi's Restaurant is billed as "the absolute favorite dining experience for many Central Massachusetts residents" by the 20-year-old online restaurant-reservation service company OpenTable Inc.
