City of Atlanta: Mayor Appoints New Deputy Chief Operations Officer and Director of Emergency Preparedness

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

ATLANTA, Georgia, June 6 -- The city of Atlanta issued the following news release:

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced the appointment of two key operational executives. Jestin Johnson has been named the City's Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Felipe Den Brok has been named the Director of the Mayor's Office of Emergency Preparedness.

"I am proud to welcome Jestin and Felipe to the team. They both have a commitment to service and community that will provide a well-rounded perspective," said Mayor Bottoms. "As we continue to advance our priorities and goals, it is essential that we bring on top talent to help realize the vision of One Atlanta. I am confident they will lead with the necessary care and concern our citizens and employees deserve."

Johnson, a veteran of the United States Airforce, has served in both city and county government. Currently, Jestin serves as the Assistant County Manager for the Unified Government of Athens Clarke County, where he manages 10 County departments. He has expertise in performing fiscal and legislative analyses and has successfully secured more than $190 million in state and federal funds for the Georgia Department of Public Safety, Veteran Services and State Board of Workers Compensation. Prior to leading in Athens Clarke County, Johnson served as the City Manager for the City of Bisbee, Arizona.

Johnson joins the Bottoms Administration following the appointment of Joshua Williams to serve as the City's next Chief Operating Officer.

Felipe den Brok brings 28 years of law enforcement and emergency preparedness experience from both the public and private sectors. Felipe is a former Special Agent with the FBI and was previously a sworn officer with the Atlanta Police Department. Most recently, Felipe served as an Emergency Preparedness and Response Analyst for Equifax's Crisis Management Unit. There, he was responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of global crisis management and business continuity plans. As a Federal agent, Felipe designed and activated national security assets to support domestic and counterterrorism preparedness operations for special events, including the Olympics, Presidential Inauguration and annual sessions of the United Nations General Assembly. Felipe is also a veteran of the United States Army.

Den Brok joins the Bottoms Administration following the departure of the prior Director of the Mayor's Office of Emergency Preparedness, Ria Aiken. "We are all thankful for the leadership and service that Ria provided to the City of Atlanta over the last several years. She was a key leader in responding and recovering from emergencies, such as winter weather and the cyber-attack, and ensuring we were fully prepared for major events, such as the Super Bowl," said Mayor Bottoms.

Johnson's appointment is effective as of Monday, June 17, 2019. Den Brok's appointment is effective immediately.
