City considering changing insurance providers for employees
Greenville Herald-Banner (TX)
Nov. 10--At its meeting this Tuesday, the Greenville City Council will consider changing health and dental insurance providers for city employees.
City and GEUS employees are currently provided both health and dental insurance through Aetna, but the city issued a bid request to providers in July, which is something the city regularly does every two or three years.
When Aetna submitted their bid, it included a 59.73 percent increase to the cost of its premiums. The city also received bids for health insurance from United Healthcare, as well as bids from dental coverage providers Delta Dental, MetLife and United Concordia, and finally, a health-dental bundled deal from Blue Cross Blue Shield.
The proposal with the lowest increase to premiums was Blue Cross Blue Shield's bundled package, with a 25.24 percent increase, so city administration is recommending that the council award the bid to Blue Cross Blue Shield.
In its 2019-20 budget, the city has allotted $5,076,883 million in funds to pay its portion of employees' health insurance premiums and $292,809 toward their dental premiums.
