Feb. 02--Charles E. Nolan Jr., a retired food broker, died of Parkinson's disease Sunday at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Towson. He was 89.
The son of Charles E. Nolan Sr. and Catherine Estelle Chillou, Charles Edward Nolan Jr. was born in Baltimore and raised in Guilford.
He was a graduate of Loyola High School and attended what is now Loyola University Maryland. He served in the Army from 1944 until 1946 and was discharged with the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Nolan's grocery career began when he worked summers as a cashier for the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co.
After World War II, he returned to A&P and worked his way through the ranks to become a senior buyer at the company's Baltimore headquarters.
In 1978, he left A&P and went into sales for Chaimson Brokerage Co., which later became Acosta Sales & Marketing Inc., a food brokerage, from which he retired in 2004.
He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's musical and athletic events, family members said.
His wife of 52 years, the former Grace Ann Howard, died in 2000.
