CHA STATEMENT ON AFFORDABLE CARE ACT ENROLLMENT

WASHINGTON, Jan. 26 -- The Catholic Health Association of the United States issued the following news release:

The Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA) released a statement reacting to a record-breaking 21.3 million people enrolling in health insurance coverage through Affordable Care Act (ACA) exchanges, including five million new enrollees.

"While much more must be done to expand access to care and ensure health insurance works for patients, the record-breaking number of people able to access coverage through the ACA is a welcome step toward building a more equitable health care system that affirms the dignity of all human beings," said Sr. Mary Haddad, RSM, President and CEO of CHA.

"CHA continues to advocate for extending the enhanced ACA subsidies, which help ensure affordability, and calls on Congress to make them permanent. We also support efforts to strengthen and expand our nation's public health insurance programs - including Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) - to further support a strong health care safety net," Sr. Haddad continued. "Catholic health care will continue working with Congress to ensure these critical programs are sufficiently funded as we work together to build a more sustainable and equitable American health care future."
