Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

WASHINGTON, July 13 (TNSres) -- The U.S. Census Bureau issued the following news release:

The U.S. Census Bureau's schedule for the release of the 2022 Income, Poverty and Health Insurance statistics from the Current Population Survey (CPS) Annual Social and Economic Supplement (ASEC) and the American Community Survey (ACS) is as follows.

Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023 (no embargo): CPS ASEC will be released for calendar year 2022.

Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023 (embargo Sept. 12): 2022 ACS 1-year estimates will be released.

* 2022 ACS. Statistics on numerous demographic, social, economic and housing characteristics (including language spoken at home, educational attainment, commute, employment, mortgage status and rent, income, poverty and health insurance coverage) will be available. Statistics will be available for geographic areas with populations of 65,000 or more. Embargo subscribers can access these statistics beginning at 10 a.m. ET, Tuesday, Sept. 12, for release at 12:01 a.m. ET, Thursday, Sept. 14.

* State-level 2022 health insurance coverage statistics. State uninsured rates and private and public health insurance coverage rates will be included in the ACS release.

Statistical Testing Spreadsheet

This ACS statistical comparison tool (https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/guidance/statistical-testing-tool.html) helps users carry out statistical testing for two or more ACS estimates. The spreadsheet factors in the margin of error to determine whether the estimates are significantly different (higher or lower) from one another.

About the CPS ASEC

The CPS (https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/cps.html) serves as the nation's primary source of statistics on labor force characteristics. The ASEC provides the official annual statistics on the nation's poverty levels as well as statistics on income, health insurance coverage, marital status, educational attainment, employee benefits, work experience, school enrollment, noncash benefits and migration. The Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics have conducted the CPS for more than 50 years. Policymakers use the statistics as indicators of our nation's economy and to plan and evaluate many government programs.

About the ACS

The ACS (https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs) provides a wide range of important statistics about people and housing for every community across the nation that everyone from city planners to retailers and homebuilders use to make decisions. The survey is the only source of local estimates for most of the 40-plus topics it covers, including income, poverty, health insurance coverage, education, occupation, language spoken at home, ancestry and housing costs.
