Carson City School Board to address academic progress, food service contract and more Tuesday

A presentation of Carson City School District's 2024-25 Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) as well as possible action on a new food service contract, health and wellness and suicide prevention policy changes will highlight Tuesday's meeting of the Carson City School Board.

School board trustees will meet Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at the Robert Crowell Board Room, Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street.

On the agenda:

— Carson City Superintendent Andrew Feuling and Chief Academic Officer Tasha Fuson will provided a presentation on the 2024-2025 MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing results and district initiatives to support growth in math and literacy in grades K-8. This is a discussion item only.

— A presentation and possible action to approve the renewal of property/casualty insurance package with Nevada Public Agency Insurance Pool for a total program cost including all Pool Services not to exceed $959,633.21, Self-Insurance Bond in an amount not to exceed $5,400 and excess Workers Compensation Policy with Star Insurance Company in an amount not to exceed $78,500 for July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026, as budgeted.

— Discussion and Possible Action to approve Renewal of Agreement between Compass Group Inc., USA (Chartwells), Food Service Management Consultant, and the Carson City School District from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 at a cost to the District of an administrative fee not to exceed $6,500 per month for 10 months and a Management Fee not to exceed $.1050 per meal with funding to come from the Nutrition Fund.

— Discussion and possible action to approve proposed changes to CCSD Policy 245, Wellness Policy. There will be discussion and possible action. This is a second reading.

— There will also be discussion and proposed changes to District Policy 270, Suicide Prevention, Intervention and Postvention. Go here for a rundown on the discussion from the June 10 board meeting on this item as well as proposed revisions to the district's Wellness Policy.

— An informational update on Edustaff, Substitute Staffing Services in the Carson City School District.

The names of those who have provided virtual public comment will be read during public comment and the emails will be included in the record, but the virtual public comment will not be read during the meeting. Comments may be made by members of the public on any matter within the authority of this Board.

Although members of the Board may respond to questions and discuss issues raised during public comment, no action may be taken on such a matter until the matter is placed on an agenda for action at a meeting of the Board.
