CAPITO DISCUSSES MINERS PROTECTION ACT WITH WEST VIRGINIA UMWA RETIREES
Congressional Documents & Publications
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) issued the following statement regarding her meeting today with West Virginia United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) retirees:
"It was great to see my friends from West Virginia and have a productive discussion about protecting the healthcare benefits of retired coal miners. This issue is so important to coal mining families in West Virginia and across America. I was glad to receive assurance from the president that he is supportive of the miners, and I will continue fighting to protect these important benefits."
A bipartisan group of senators, including Senators Capito and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) reintroduced the Miners Protection Act last month. In December 2016, Senator Capito wrote a letter to President-elect Donald Trump urging him to address the Miners Protection Act early in his administration. President Trump responded in this hand-written message.
