Canadian woman dies in collision

Aug. 18--FRANKLIN -- A injury collision outside Franklin resulted in the death of a Canadian woman on Sunday.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green received a call of an injury collision on Ky. 100 approximately 3 miles east of Franklin involving two motorcycles being struck by a vehicle.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Heather Laughlin, 48, and Michael Laughlin, 48, both of Bracebridge, Ontario were parked partially on the shoulder of roadway standing near their motorcycles when a westbound 2004 Ford pickup being operated by Raymond Kitchens, 75, of Franklin struck both motorcycles and subjects.

Heather Laughlin was transported to the Medical Center at Franklin, where she later died from her injuries. Michael Laughlin was also taken to the Medical Center at Franklin for his injuries, where he was later transferred to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Kitchens was not injured in the collision.

The investigation is still ongoing and being led by Trooper Brett Coomes.

The Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green received a call on Saturday at approximately 10:23 p.m. from a female at 383 Fordes Crossing Road in Warren County stating there was a subject there with a gunshot wound.

While units were responding, it was learned that the subjects Troopers were responding to assist were involved in a vehicle collision at Fairview and the Bypass in the limits of Bowling Green with another vehicle.

Selena Drexel, 43, of Bowling Green was arrested from the scene by Trooper Harrison Wells where she was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs first offense, wanton endangerment firs degree, and failure to produce an insurance card. She was released on Monday after posting a $50,000 bond, according to the jail website.

A male subject was transported to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen. No further information was available Monday.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by Detective Wesley Medley. The vehicle collision is being investigated by the Bowling Green Police Department.
