California Casualty Awards Healthcare Heroes in Oregon and Ohio $1,000 Each

California Casualty congratulates Oregon Nurses Association member, Casey J., and Ohio Nurses Association members Jennifer P. and Jennifer A. as 2020 $1,000 Nurses Night Out winners.

California Casualty originally created the Nurses Night Out giveaway as a way to thank nurses for their compassion, dedication and the long hours spent healing patients and comforting families. The 2020 Nurses Night Out campaign honored these same frontline healthcare professionals as they battled COVID-19 – through incredibly long hours, heartbreaking care cases, and increased personal risk.

As if the stress of COVID was not enough for Oregon winner, Casey J., the Almeda Fire made its way through her hometown just before she received news that she had won $1,000 from California Casualty. When Oregon Nurses Association President Lynda Pond and California Casualty Sr. Field Marketing Manager Dee Dee Templeton called Casey to let her know she was a Nurses Night Out (NNO) award recipient, Casey had just returned from grocery shopping for members of her community. She had only returned to her own home in Phoenix, OR the night before, having been evacuated for nine days. Casey shared that she plans to use most of the funds to help members of her community that were impacted by the fires. Moved by her story, California Casualty echoed her efforts with an additional $1,000 donation to the Oregon Nurses Foundation Wildfire Relief in honor of Casey J.

Ohio winner Jennifer P. received her announcement virtually when representatives from California Casualty and the Ohio Nurses Association surprised her bright and early October 15th, just after her night shift ended. Michelle Thoman, the President of the Registered Nurses Association of University of Cincinnati Medical Center – where Jenny works – made the virtual message festive for those in person with flowers, balloons and bagels.

Jennifer told Rebecca Stumpf with California Casualty, that the news she had won was so surreal and that she couldn't wait to tell her husband with the good news when she got home from work!

Jennifer A. from Ohio received her surprise announcement on Monday, October 26th when Michelle Thoman, President of the Registered Nurses Association of University of Cincinnati Medical Center, presented her with flowers as California Casualty Field Team Manager Rebecca Stumpf delivered the exciting news while on speaker phone. Yes, both ONA-OH winners are named Jennifer and both work at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Jen plans to use the funds to update her family camping equipment for a night outdoors – perfectly fitting for the current times.
