BRIEF: Where do Southern California House Republicans stand on health care bill?
Press-Enterprise (Riverside, CA)
May 02--Republican members of the Southern California delegation to Congress have mixed views on the latest bill to repeal and replace Obamacare.
The version currently on the table would allow states to open out of certain insurance requirements, including rules that prevent insurers from charging more for customers who have pre-existing health conditions.
While the current version has the support of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, it's not clear whether GOP leaders have the 216 votes to move the bill through the House. With Democrats unified in their opposition to repealing the Affordable Care Act, Republicans can afford no more than 22 defections on their own side for the bill the pass.
Reps. Mimi Walters, R-Laguna Beach and Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine, support the bill, according to their spokesmen. Reps. Ken Calvert, R-Corona and Dana Rohrabacher, R-Costa Mesa, are still reviewing the bill, their offices said.
Reps. Darrell Issa, R-Vista and Steve Knight, R-Palmdale are undecided, their spokesmen said.
Rep. Ed Royce, R-Fullerton, is undecided, according to published reports. Rep. Paul Cook, R-Yucca Valley, was leaning no, The Huffington Post reported.
