BRIEF: Vehicles crushed, but no one hurt

Jan. 03--A head-on collision on Mission Road left both vehicles crumpled wrecks, but the drivers were not seriously hurt, the N.C. Highway Patrol said.

Devyn Snead, 17, of Harvard Place in Hudson was driving an orange Ford Focus southwest on Mission Road when he took his eyes off the road, drifted left of center near Withers Drive and crashed into a green Nissan pickup driven by Brian Brown, 25, of Brown Orchard Drive in Drexel at around 8:30 a.m. Monday, Trooper Matthew Adams of the N.C. Highway Patrol said.

"He just bent over to get his water bottle. He looked back up and it was too late," Adams said.

Snead was charged with driving without a valid vehicle registration, driving without proof of insurance, and driving left of center. Brown was charged with driving without vehicle registration, driving without proof of insurance, an inspection violation and having unsafe tires.
