BRIEF: These protesters want SC’s senators to marry them — for their health coverage
State (Columbia, SC)
June 28--If you're worried about losing your health insurance under the proposed health care bill moving through the Senate, these protesters think they have a solution -- marry your senator.
Members of the liberal group Indivisible Midlands staged a creative protest of the GOP health care bill in the Senate. They shot a music video asking South Carolina's two unmarried U.S. senators to marry them so they could receive the federal government's health care benefits.
The YouTube video "Marry You for Health Care" -- a parody of a Bruno Mars song -- featured S.C. residents moke proposing to Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-Seneca, and Tim Scott, R-North Charleston.
The video caught the attention of MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, who highlighted it for her Twitter followers.
The Congressional Budget Office estimated the Senate bill could lead to 22 million more people without insurance over the next 10 years. The bill was ultimately pulled Tuesday without coming up for a vote.
