BRIEF: Probate judge cites former R.I. Rep. Gallison in estate case
Providence Journal (RI)
Jan. 09--BARRINGTON, R.I. -- A probate court judge Monday cited former House Finance Committee Chairman Raymond Gallison for "unfaithful administration of the estate" in the handling of a dead Barrington man's will.
The citation could lead to Gallison, now the target of a federal investigation, having to pay the estate $500,000.
Probate Court Judge Marvin Homonoff said the performance bond, which Gallison took out as the lawyer for the estate, was not backed by an insurance company. Therefore, the liability is Gallison's own, the judge said.
Homonoff said he would hold a hearing next month, at which time Gallison or his attorney could come to defend the charge. But neither has so far attended any of the probate court hearings in the estate of Ray Medley.
Medley died in 2012, but Gallison is alleged to have never distributed more than $1 million in proceeds from the will to nine nonprofits.
