Hour (Norwalk, CT)
Feb. 08--MassMutual is closing its Enfield offices and moving employees to Springfield where it was founded in 1851, after receiving $46 million in Massachusetts incentives.
The company is spending $300 million on the Sprinfield expansion, with plans to add 1,500 employees there over three years to triple its workforce in the city; also constructing a new campus in Boston where MassMutual will have 1,000 employees, at an investment of $240 million.
MassMutual had invested $38 million in its Enfield campus in 2013 after acquiring The Hartford's retirement plan business, moving some employees there from Springfield at the time.
The company sells life insurance, policies for long-term care and disability income, 401(k) plan services and annuities.
