BRIEF: Calhoun County ISD appoints interim superintendent

Jan. 17--An interim superintendent is overseeing Calhoun County ISD's bond construction and working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and its insurance company about Hurricane Harvey repairs.

Larry Nichols started Jan. 11. He was Calhoun County ISD's superintendent from 2000 to 2010. He replaces James Cowley, who resigned Jan. 8 to become Groesbeck ISD's superintendent.

Nichols said Tuesday he is still forming his opinion on what the most pressing issue facing the district is. He referred questions about how the search for a superintendent will commence to School Board President Bill Harvey. Harvey could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

"We're looking forward to a good spring semester in Calhoun County," Nichols said. "There's a lot of dedicated people here doing some good work."

The school board meets next Feb. 12 at the Seadrift School, 1801 W. Broadway.
