Boomer Benefits offers $1,000 scholarship for over-50 scholar

PR Newswire iReach

FORT WORTH, Texas, July 20, 2015 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Over 50 and passionate about service to others?  You may be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship awarded by a Medicare benefits firm whose corporate initiative includes helping Boomers further their education.

Boomer Benefits' founder Danielle Kunkle says priority will be given to a U.S. citizen age 50 or older currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited public or private school.  "Applicants may be attending community colleges, technical schools and four-year universities within the continental U.S. and must have a 3.0 grade point average.

"We're looking for applicants demonstrating a passion for service to others, particularly Americans, and a seriousness of purpose and sound character."

Deadline for applications is Aug. 15. Funds are paid directly to the institution for tuition, fees or books. Applicants must provide the following:

  • Application and transcript
  • Letter of Recommendation from a professor in the last two years or the facilitator of a verifiable community service organization
  • Letter describing current career goals and how this education will help achieve those goals and community service history and what it has meant to them

For more information and to receive an application, contact Scholarship Review Board, Boomer Benefits, 5650 N. Riverside Dr. #200, Fort Worth, TX 76137 or email scholarship(at)boomerbenefits.com.

The 2014 scholarship was awarded to Mark Van Wagoner, a Highland, Utah, teacher at a school for at-risk students. Wagoner teaches landscape, horticulture and gardening to youth to develop hands-on skills of sustainability and improve their self-confidence. He helped create the school's horticulture program and will pursue a bachelor's degree at Utah State University as part of his dream of teaching at the university level.

"Mark was impressive in how he used his life's passion to give back to his community," says Kunkle. "He teaches adults, including seniors, community education gardening courses to help them discover the satisfaction of working with soil and plants. He judges entries in the horticulture division of the Salt Lake County and Utah County fairs, and he works with city leaders to organize a beautification program. He also writes a gardening column for his local newspaper. Mark's goal is to one day take his knowledge to third world countries where he can teach people how to grow and preserve their own food."

Kunkle says Boomer Benefits hopes to increase the number of scholarships offered to deserving older students in the future.

Boomer Benefits is an insurance company in Fort Worth specializing in Medicare benefits targeting 70 million Americans born from 1946 to1964. Kunkle and her brother David Kunkle founded Boomer Benefits 10 years ago to assist Medicare-eligible seniors in navigating the overwhelming and constantly-changing Medicare maze.

"We educate them on Medicare and the wide variety of supplemental plans in plain, easy-to-understand language," says Kunkle. "Once they understand how their Medicare coverage works, they're more comfortable choosing the Medicare supplemental plan that best suits them.  They get better coverage for the most affordable cost."

Boomer Benefits is one-of-a-kind service with a full-time Client Service Team to assist its thousands of policyholders – totally free of charge – with every detail after the purchase of a Medicare supplemental insurance product.  Their claim support services are free for life.

For more information visit boomerbenefits.com or find them on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or at 855-732-9055.  The Web site also offers Ms. Kunkle's blog site with information on changing legislation and Medicare development.
